Park:Life Summer School – 27th July – 7th August 2009

This Summer, Women & Theatre are holding a two-week Summer School with local young women, to create a piece of drama about being a teenage girl in 2009.  Park:Life will explore issues that are important to the young women, including relationships, exam pressure, safety and life in urban spaces, particularly in the context of Birmingham’s urban regeneration.  Over a two-week creative devising process they will create a performance to be held in Highgate Park on 7th August, linking in with the public launch of Birmingham City Council’s Big City Plan.

We are currently recruiting participants and are interested in working with young women, and girls who are at risk of exclusion.  Please contact us if you would like to register interest on behalf of yourself or young women that you work with.

Park:Life has been made possible with funding from Connexions, Birmingham City Council, The Grantham Yorke Trust and the Charles Henry Foyle Trust

W&T’s first Summer School

This Summer, W&T launched our first Summer School for young people from across Birmingham. Director Mike Aduwali and Lead Artist Jill Norman worked with a group including looked after young people from Rights of Child Drama Group to devise a piece inspired by TV favourite CSI Miami. Participants are now working towards attaining a Bronze (and in some instances Silver) Arts Award. Jill said “everyone worked really hard and achieved a lot in a short space of time, including a brilliant performance!” Thank you to Birmingham City Council Arts Team for their support.

We plan to hold a Summer School every year with themes linking into our main artistic programme, if you’re interester in finding out more please do get in touch.
